These interactive, empowering workshops are designed to foster healing, promote self-care and wellness, while focusing on skills for self-regulation, exploring cultural identity, through a trauma-informed lens. The delivery of each workshop can be adapted for both in-person and online settings, ensuring accessibility for all. These workshops can be presented from a therapeutic healing perspective for clients and families, or can also be tailored to accommodate school staff, healthcare teams, or other professional groups seeking staff wellness initiatives, or looking to instill trauma-informed practices into their workplace.

Joanna Gladue
THERAPIST/ FACILITATOR
(she/her) is an experienced Indigenous Cree female educator and trauma therapist, who has over ten years of experience providing a safe and culturally sensitive environment for participants. Joanna works from a holistic approach, utilizing an eclectic array of therapeutic modalities, weaving in Indigenous spiritual practices, with cognitive behavior therapy, and somatic approaches including EMDR and trauma-informed yoga.

Curt Young
FACILITATOR
(He/him) is an award-winning, Indigenous musician, artisan, pow wow dancer, flute, and hand drum performer, with over twelve years performing and facilitating workshops. Additionally, these workshops can be tailored to the specific needs and preferences of the Indigenous community, with an emphasis on promoting healing, self-discovery, and empowerment.

Baylee Giroux
FACILITATOR
(She/Her)( He/Him), a Two-Spirit Cree from Treaty 8 territory, dedicates his efforts to educating on Indigenous and LGBTQ2S+ issues and their intersectionality. Through workshops and art, Baylee strives to empower communities by centering her identities and experiences.

In this one-hour presentation, Joanna will provide an overview of intergenerational trauma, the impacts of trauma, the indicators of trauma, and understanding best practices in healing, from a culturally sensitive trauma-informed lens. Participants will be provided with examples of how to incorporate trauma-informed care into their classroom, workplace, or healthcare clinic, using a holistic framework, designed by Joanna Gladue. Interactive and engaging activities, along with storytelling and dialogue will be used throughout the workshop, allowing for a safe, collaborative space for learning.

In this one-hour presentation, Curt will share how the power of the arts and creative expression can be used as a catalyst for growth and reflection. Curt Young will put on an eclectic singing and musical performance with his traditional hand-drum, flute, guitar, all connected in the form of storytelling.

In this two-hour presentation, Joanna and Curt will discuss the issue and prevalence of sexual violence and exploitation within Indigenous communities. Participants will be educated on tactics used by predators on online platforms, and warning signs of behaviors that your child may exhibit if they are experiencing exploitation and /or bullying. Participants will be engaged in a supportive dialogue and sharing of their own experiences, with the intent to foster and empower resilience within Indigenous communities.

This one-hour experiential workshop with Joanna will provide an opportunity to explore and understand holistic wellness, and how this can be used to heal trauma, using a trauma-informed approach. Participants will be provided with a basic understanding of what trauma is, and how can manifest in yourself, and others. There will be an opportunity to learn what polyvagal theory is, and how this is relevant to trauma recover, with self-regulation techniques. Participants will be guided through breathing and grounding exercises, trauma-informed yoga, and somatic movement, with the ability to add some tools to their wellness plan. *Note: There is the option to extend this workshop for more hands-on somatic movement, please discuss with facilitator when booking.

This one-hour workshop with Joanna will begin with an educational aspect in understanding the complexities of intergenerational trauma; how it manifests in individuals, families, and communities. Participants will be guided through an understanding of the significance of colonization and how this legacy continues to affect your relationships with yourself and others, including an overview of lateral violence, and “cancel culture”. This facilitated workshop will encourage participants to move from negative self-talk, to resiliency and a reclamation of identity. * Note: There is an optional craft activity that will extend the workshop to two hours, please discuss with facilitator when booking to go over optional activities.

Join Joanna and Baylee for this three-hour workshop which is geared for parents of trans and gender-diverse children and youth, with a focus on 2SLGBTQIA+ identities, Indigenous perspectives, and various aspects of supporting their children's journey in becoming their true self. This workshop is facilitated by an Indigenous two-spirited, trans-masculine person, with their mother, who is a trauma-therapist and ally. Together they share the dynamics that can take place in a family system, with their own lived experiences and stories, while providing content and education.

In this three-hour workshop, Joanna and Curt present participants with definitions on different types of losses, including complicated grief, traumatic loss, loss of cultural identity, familial disconnections, and disenfranchised grief. This workshop will also explore the ceremonies and traditions that are connected to losses, with a reflection on cultural traditions. Participants will be provided an overview of how grief can manifest with trauma signs and symptoms, from a holistic perspective. There will be an opportunity for participants to create their own wellness support, and how to apply this in response to a community – based loss, with local initiatives and resources.

This one-hour transformative workshop presented by Joanna is tailored for Indigenous youth. It delves into topics such as understanding Western perspectives on body image and eating disorders, challenging colonial stereotypes impacting self-identity, addressing the impact of colonization and violence on Indigenous females, navigating online bullying and harassment, and discussing strategies for preventing and reporting such incidents. Additionally, we'll engage in supportive dialogues on addressing the issue of Missing and Murdered Indigenous People, exploring avenues to promote wellness, cultural pride, and positive body image through empowering programming in schools and communities.
