Vision
The vision of Mamisewin is to create a sacred space where Indigenous individuals can embark on a healing journey guided by an Indigenous therapist who not only possesses professional expertise but also deeply understands the lived experiences of being Indigenous.
We strive to foster a collaborative therapeutic relationship built on trust and mutual respect, where clients feel empowered to explore their emotions and experiences in a safe and supportive environment.
Ultimately, we aspire to provide hope and trauma-informed healing for Indigenous individuals, offering culturally relevant and affirming therapy that honors their resilience, strength, and inherent worth, while understanding intergenerational trauma, racism, and discrimination.
At Mamisewin, we are dedicated to honoring the uniqueness of each individual, recognizing and respecting the knowledge and wisdom they carry within themselves. We strive to dismantle any fears and uncertainties surrounding the counselling experience, creating a welcoming and comforting atmosphere.
Through a trauma-informed holistic approach to wellness, traditional Indigenous practices, and ways of being are incorporated into our healing practices and guide the education and training that we offer.
Our counselling services are guided by a commitment to offer an inclusive, client-centred, non-judgmental, and supportive environment. We will walk alongside you, empowering you to engage in self-reflection, while respecting that your identity, beliefs, and values, as you begin or continue, your journey toward holistic wellness.
Mission
Values
-
Respect is valuing the inherent dignity and worth of every individual, regardless of their background, experiences, culture, religion, race, sexual orientation, values or beliefs. It involves actively listening to my clients, acknowledging their perspectives, and validating their emotions and experiences. Empathy is at the core of my practice. I endeavor to understand my clients' experiences from their perspective, to walk alongside them in their struggles, and to celebrate their victories. It involves being present with my clients, offering compassion and understanding without trying to fix them.
-
As a counselor committed to empowerment, I facilitate a trauma-informed counselling environment where clients actively engage in their own journey of healing and growth. This entails equipping them with a diverse array of tools and strategies for self-care, nurturing their capacity for self-exploration and self-expression, and cultivating a profound sense of agency and autonomy. By guiding clients to tap into their innate strengths and resilience, I empower them to navigate challenges, embrace opportunities for personal insight, and support them in understanding what wellness looks like for them.
-
I am committed to upholding the highest ethical standards in my counselling practice. This means adhering to the principles of confidentiality, informed consent, and respect for client autonomy. I am dedicated to ongoing professional development and growth, through continuous learning opportunities. Central to my core as a counselling professional, I truly believe in the positive transformations that come with therapy. I also recognize the privilege and honour with being entrusted with someone's innermost thoughts, feelings, and experiences.

Territorial Land Acknowledgment
We acknowledge that we work, live, and gather on Turtle Island. As we provide services and supports across Alberta, we acknowledge that we are on the traditional and ancestral territory of many peoples, presently subject to Treaties 4, 6, 7, and 8. We honour and recognize the Blackfoot Confederacy – Kainai, Piikani, and Siksika – the Cree, Dene, Saulteaux, Nakota Sioux, Stoney Nakoda, and the Tsuut’ina Nation and the Métis People of Alberta. This includes the Métis Settlements and the 22 Districts across the province of Alberta. We acknowledge the many First Nations, Métis and Inuit who have lived in and cared for these lands for generations and continue to do so. We are grateful for the traditional Knowledge Keepers and Elders who are still with us today and those who have gone before us. We make this acknowledgement as an act of reconciliation and gratitude to those whose territory we reside on or are visiting
